Former NFL Player Marcellus Wiley Accused of Raping Two Women at Columbia University

Former NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley has been accused of raping two women while attending Columbia University in the 1990s. The allegations surfaced in a lawsuit filed against Columbia University, claiming the institution failed to address the incidents despite being aware of them. The lawsuit was filed under New York's Adult Survivors Act, which temporarily lifted the statute of limitations for sexual assault claims.

The accusers, identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, claim the assaults occurred in 1994 and 1995, respectively. Jane Doe 1 alleges that Wiley raped her in her dorm room after she repeatedly rejected his advances. Jane Doe 2 claims Wiley forced himself on her after she invited him to her room. Both women assert that they reported the incidents to the university, but no action was taken.

Wiley, who played for the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys during his NFL career, has since transitioned into a successful broadcasting career. He has denied the allegations, stating that all his sexual encounters have been consensual. His attorney emphasized Wiley's commitment to defending his reputation against these claims.

The lawsuit also criticizes Columbia University for allegedly fostering an environment that enabled such incidents. It claims that the university's failure to address the complaints allowed Wiley to continue his behavior without repercussions. Columbia University has yet to respond to the lawsuit's allegations.

This case adds to the growing list of sexual assault allegations within the sports industry, highlighting the need for institutions to take such accusations seriously and implement effective measures to protect students.
