UCF Volleyball Suffers First Loss of Season at No. 21 Florida State

The UCF Knights volleyball team faced their first setback of the 2024 season, falling to No. 21 Florida State in a challenging away match on September 15. The Knights, who had been undefeated until this point, were pushed to their limits by the Seminoles in a match that showcased the competitive spirit of both teams.

The game, held at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee, saw Florida State leveraging their home advantage to secure a hard-fought victory. Despite the loss, UCF showed resilience and skill, with standout performances from several players. Junior outside hitter, Sarah Jones, led the Knights with 15 kills, while sophomore libero, Emma Smith, contributed significantly with 18 digs.

Coach Jenny Maurer expressed both disappointment and pride in her team's performance. 'It's tough to lose our first game, especially against a strong team like Florida State,' Maurer said. 'But I'm proud of how we fought. We'll learn from this and come back stronger.'

The Knights will look to bounce back as they continue their season, with upcoming matches against other formidable opponents. This loss serves as a reminder of the competitive nature of college volleyball and the challenges that lie ahead for UCF as they aim to reclaim their winning streak.
