PG&E Advances $43 Million for Nine Community Microgrids in California
In a significant move towards enhancing energy resilience, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has allocated $43 million to fund the development of nine community microgrids across Northern California. This initiative aims to bolster energy security in areas prone to power outages, particularly during wildfires and other natural disasters.
The microgrids, set to be installed in nine outage-prone communities, will incorporate solar power and battery storage systems. This project is part of a broader effort by PG&E to improve the reliability and sustainability of the energy supply in the region. The selected communities for this pilot program include locations such as Napa and Sonoma, which have historically faced significant challenges due to frequent power disruptions.
The initiative not only promises to provide a more reliable power source but also aligns with California's ambitious clean energy goals. By integrating renewable energy sources, these microgrids will help reduce the carbon footprint of the local communities while ensuring they have access to electricity during emergencies.
