Duval County School Buses May Get New Tech to Prevent Crashes
In an effort to enhance student safety, Duval County Public Schools in Florida is considering the implementation of new technology on their school buses. This initiative comes in response to a recent increase in school bus accidents and aims to reduce the risk of crashes.
The proposed technology includes advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking systems, collision avoidance systems, and lane departure warnings. These systems are designed to alert drivers to potential hazards and assist in preventing accidents. The school district is currently evaluating the cost and feasibility of installing these systems across their fleet of buses.
Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, 'The safety of our students is our top priority. By equipping our buses with the latest safety technology, we can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents and ensure that our students arrive at school and return home safely.'
The proposal has garnered support from parents and community members who are eager to see improvements in school bus safety. If approved, the new technology could be installed as early as the next school year, pending budget approval and successful implementation trials.
