Ninth Circuit Upholds California’s Large-Capacity Magazine Ban
The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld California's ban on large-capacity magazines, reversing a previous decision by a San Diego federal judge. This ruling comes after a series of legal challenges that have reached the highest levels of the U.S. judicial system. The decision reaffirms the constitutionality of the ban, which limits magazines to 10 rounds, as declared by California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
The case, known as Duncan v. Bonta, had been a focal point for gun rights advocates, including the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA), who argued that the ban infringed upon Second Amendment rights. Despite a favorable ruling in San Diego, the en banc panel of the Ninth Circuit disagreed, siding with the state's argument that the ban is a necessary public safety measure.
This decision is set to be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, as indicated by the CRPA, signaling ongoing contention over gun control laws in California and potentially setting a precedent for similar legislation nationwide. Attorney General Bonta praised the ruling, emphasizing its importance in preventing gun violence and enhancing public safety.
