The University of South Florida (USF) has announced the establishment of the President's Global Leadership Council, a new initiative aimed at enhancing the university's international presence and influence. The council, inaugurated on April 15, 2024, comprises distinguished global leaders, academics, and industry experts who will collaborate to guide USF's strategic international endeavors.
USF President Rhea Law, who spearheaded the formation of the council, emphasized its role in advancing the university's global engagement. 'The President's Global Leadership Council is a pivotal step towards positioning USF as a leader in global education and research,' President Law stated during the launch event. The council's objectives include fostering international partnerships, promoting global research initiatives, and enhancing student and faculty exchange programs.
The inaugural members of the council include notable figures such as former Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, tech mogul and philanthropist Bill Gates, and Nobel laureate in Economics Esther Duflo. Their diverse expertise is expected to significantly contribute to USF's international strategy.
The establishment of the council aligns with USF's broader mission to become a preeminent research university with a global impact. The university has been actively expanding its international programs, including the recent launch of a new campus in Panama and increased collaborations with universities in Europe and Asia.
The President's Global Leadership Council will meet quarterly, with its first session scheduled for June 2024. The council's activities and recommendations will be closely monitored by the university's board of trustees, ensuring alignment with USF's strategic goals.
